Artists Statement
I am a ceramic artist whose work reflects my enjoyment of family, friends and living in a community. I make porcelain vessels which are thrown and made in collections. They reflect something of the domestic shelf including much of the clutter we collect in our homes. The ‘things’ found in our homes tell a story as they build up over time. Each pot is unique but they are made in families or multiples. These collections are framed on shelves or trays and can be endlessly rearranged.
Conversation is a thread which runs through making and teaching and has led to intervention work using vessels with different adjectives describing how we feel: positive and negative words are both witty and inclusive, promoting conversation. The process of making and exhibiting becomes a positive, playful experience.
Profile
I am a Ceramic Artist working in Warwickshire with extensive experience of coordinating and running ceramic workshops in the community, working with all ages. I now work as a full-time artist having recently completed a MA at Coventry University. This followed a successful career as a primary school teacher. I have a studio range but am also interested in larger scale installation.
